Charleston Miracle, the College of Charleston’s Dance Marathon organization, recently received a national award at the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals’ 2018 Miracle Network Dance Marathon Leadership Conference.

The student organization, which raises money for the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital earned a Miracle Maker Award. The Miracle Maker Award is presented to Dance Marathon programs that had the highest combined monetary and percentage increases in their overall fundraising over the previous year. The College was one of nine schools nationwide recognized during the conference in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The College of Charleston organization raised a total of $115,678.54 during the 2017-2018 academic year, a 126 percent (or $64,601) increase over the previous year’s total. More than 491 students participated in the renamed CougarThon event in March 2018.

Since 2007, the Charleston Miracle, previously Dance Marathon, has raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for MUSC Children’s Hospital.
