The Race and Social Justice Initiative (RSJI) is now accepting applications for the 2018 – 2019 Student Leadership Award (SLA). The deadline to apply is Monday, Dec. 10, 2018.

The SLA is a $600 travel and research stipend awarded to six undergraduate and graduate students with a passion for social activism. The Student Leadership Award was created as a means to foster systemic change across the College of Charleston campus and the greater Lowcountry community. Housed within the Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture at the College of Charleston, the RSJI is a grant-funded initiative that facilitates public events, exhibitions, and various projects that promote awareness of the history and ongoing struggles of racial injustice in Charleston, South Carolina, and throughout the United States.

Proposals for the SLA should include the following components: a clear abstract of the project, a statement of need (how RSJI funds will be allocated if awarded the SLA), a detailed description of the project, and a final statement outlining how the project will advance and support the social activism climate on the CofC campus or in the greater Charleston community.

The deadline to apply is Monday, Dec. 10, 2018, at 11:59 p.m. For more information, visit the Race and Social Justice Initiative website. Award Notifications will be made on Jan. 2, 2019.
