College of Charleston Board of Trustee Renee Romberger ’81 was recently honored with the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina’s highest civilian honor, for her service to the City of Spartanburg and surrounding area.

Romberger retired in August as the vice president of community health policy and strategy at Spartanburg Medical Center where she oversaw the implementation of initiatives aimed at improving health issues such as lowering teen pregnancy rates, improving Spartanburg County’s annual health rankings and expanding access to health care for those who are uninsured.

In addition to her role on the College’s Board of Trustees, where she recently chaired the Presidential Search Committee for CofC’s 23rd president, Romberger has served on numerous local and state boards, including the Alliance for a Healthier South Carolina.
