College of Charleston Board of Trustees Chair David Hay provided the following message to the campus community on Dec. 29, 2018, regarding President-elect Andrew T. Hsu:
Dear Campus Community,
I hope you are enjoying the holidays and the winter break. I am writing today to provide you an update regarding Andrew T. Hsu, who was selected by the Board of Trustees in late November to be the 23rd president of the College of Charleston.
One of the goals of the Board of Trustees was to work out the contract of President-elect Hsu before year’s end. I am pleased to report we have accomplished that objective – after the Board of Trustees gathered in a special meeting on Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, to approve the terms of the contract and President-elect Hsu officially signed it on Friday night.
Now that President-elect Hsu’s agreement is finalized, I would also like to provide you a few updates. On the afternoon of Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019, we plan to host a welcome event on campus for President-elect Hsu and his family. I will send more details in early January regarding the day’s festivities. In the meantime, please mark your calendars. I hope you will be able to join us for one of several planned activities that day.
As for President-elect Hsu’s start date, he will officially take the helm of the College of Charleston on May 16, 2019. However, President-elect Hsu will be on campus starting March 1, 2019, which will allow him to begin scheduling meetings with various campus and community leaders, start the critical work of forming a strategic planning advisory committee and help steer preparations for the 250thcelebration.
This is an exciting time for our College of Charleston community, and we have a lot to look forward to in 2019.
I wish you a safe, happy rest of your holiday season! Go Cougars!
Sincerely,
David M. Hay ’81
Chair, College of Charleston Board of Trustees
