The College of Charleston hospitality and tourism program is one of the best in the nation, according to the website Study.com.

The site recently released its 2019 rankings of the top 50 hospitality and tourism programs in the country. The College of Charleston’s program was named the sixth best in the nation and the top program in South Carolina.

“You can pursue a major, minor or concentration in hospitality and tourism management at this college, which is located in one of South Carolina’s top tourist cities,” reads the copy in Study.com regarding CofC’s hospitality program, which is housed within the School of Business. “The minor would most benefit you if you’re majoring in a program outside of the college’s business school, while the concentration in hospitality and tourism management pairs well with a business administration major.”

Staff members at Study.com selected CofC’s hospitality and tourism program based on academic and career resources for hospitality and tourism students, the quality of education in hospitality and tourism, and faculty, among other qualifications.

“We are proud to have a such a rigorous and student-centered program,” said Wayne Smith, chair of the College’s Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management. “What makes this program special is that our program goes beyond the classroom and engages one of the USA’s top tourism destinations (Charleston). We have built the ultimate hospitality immersion program where students work, study and live the industry 24/7 for their four years. As a result, our young leaders are set up for success post-graduation.”

Study.com staff considered criteria such as the availability of internship opportunities, hospitality clubs and honor societies, and comprehensive coursework or study abroad options to compile the list.
