In the face of an increasingly global world, threats from public health emergencies are more pressing than ever. And how the medical community responds to public health threats has had to evolve.

Dr. Stephen C. Redd, deputy director for Public Health Service and Implementation Science and the director for the Center for Preparedness and Response at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, will explore the evolution of how medical experts respond to public health emergencies during a talk titled “The Changing Face of Public Health Emergency Response.” The talk, which is sponsored by the College’s Department of Health and Human Performance as part of the Joseph J. Schott Health and Human Performance Speakers Series, will take place at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 28, 2019, in room 101 of the Rita Liddy Hollings Science Center. The event is free and open to the public.
During Redd’s distinguished career in medicine and public health, he has been intimately involved in nearly all aspects of infectious disease treatment, management and prevention. Over the course of his career these threats have changed and necessitated changes in how local, state and national governments respond to public health emergencies. Redd’s talk will focus on these changes and highlight ways students, healthcare professionals and community members can help in the containment and prevention of future outbreaks.
