Provost Brian McGee has announced that the College of Charleston is merging its Office of Sustainability and the Sustainability Literacy Institute to create a new Center of Sustainability.

Brian Fisher, who previously served as director of the Office of Sustainability, will serve as the new center’s executive director. The Sustainability Literacy Institute (SLI) will continue to be led by its current director, Todd LeVasseur. Ashley Lavender, who has served as the Office of Sustainability’s intern and student coordinator since 2017, will now serve as the associate director of the Office of Sustainability.

The consolidation of the SLI and Office of Sustainability, said McGee, is meant to increase efficiencies and participation in the College’s sustainability-driven initiatives.

“From my perspective and from the perspective of the [Interim President Stephen C. Osborne ’73], the good work of both the SLI and the Office of Sustainability will continue,” McGee said in a message to the campus community.
