Self-nominations for a seat on the Staff Advisory Committee to the President (SAC) are open through March 15, 2019. There are three at-large seats open for permanent, full-time staff; one at-large seat open for temporary staff; and one divisional seat open from each of the following:

  • Academic Affairs
  • Business Affairs
  • Marketing and Communications
  • Student Affairs

The purpose of SAC is to advise the president about staff opinions concerning matters of importance to the staff and institution, to receive the president’s requests for advice and counsel regarding matters relevant to the staff, to increase awareness of the staff’s contributions to the College and to promote the recognition of outstanding staff.

Nominees should be willing to commit to meeting as an entire committee at least once a month and to meeting with their chosen subcommittee at least once a month. They should also expect to represent SAC at staff drop-ins, the Staff Awards Luncheon in June and other SAC initiatives throughout the year. Divisional representatives should also plan to communicate SAC initiatives with their divisions, encourage their division to participate in SAC-sponsored events and solicit action items for SAC to work on.

Any staff member who occupies a temporary, non-instructional position can self-nominate for the temporary staff seat. Any permanent, full-time staff member who does not have “president” or “provost” in their title can self-nominate for a divisional seat, at-large seat or both. Divisional representatives must work in the division they will represent. If you self-nominate for both a division seat and an at-large seat and are elected as a divisional representative, your name will be removed from the at-large ballot.

Divisional candidates will be announced March 27, with an open election April 1–6. They will be elected only by members of the staff who work in that particular division. Divisional winners will be announced April 10.

At-large and temporary candidates will be announced April 17, with open elections April 22–27. All permanent, full-time staff are eligible to vote for the three open seats in the at-large election. Temporary employees can only vote in the temporary election. The temporary and at-large winners will be announced May 1.

The term for the newly elected members begins July 1. The full-time staff representatives will serve for three years, and the temporary staff representative will serve for one year.

It is an exciting time to join SAC, since this committee will be working with the new CofC president as the College heads into its 250th anniversary.
