Spring has sprung at the College of Charleston, and that means Spring Alumni Weekend 2019 is right around the corner. Set for May 3 – 5, 2019, Spring Alumni Weekend will feature some exciting new events and some old favorites like the Alumni Champagne Brunch and A Charleston Affair.

The weekend kicks off on Friday, May 3, with 16 new celebrations – including piazza parties, happy hours and receptions specialized for alumni from every corner of campus. Guests will find fellowship, fun and friends, whether they’re attending Flashback Friday with the School of Education, Health, and Human Performance; the School of the Arts Alumni Awards Celebration; the Physics and Astronomy: Reconnect and Rejoice event; the Computer Science Alumni Cookout; or the Black Alumni Council’s Maroon Friday Fish Fry. These Spring Alumni Weekend gatherings offer something for alumni of all ages and interests, so explore the schedule and purchase event tickets early before they sell out.

The most anticipated celebration of the weekend, A Charleston Affair, begins at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 4. A Charleston Affair is not just the biggest party of the year, it’s a party with a purpose, supporting Alumni Association scholarships and programs and also welcoming graduating students from the Class of 2019 into the Alumni Association.

“A Charleston Affair dates back to 1900 when the very first Alumni Reception was held honoring the graduating class as the newest members of the Alumni Association,” says Ann Pryor ’83, vice president of Alumni Affairs. “As much as the College has changed and grown since then, the heart of the campus remains the same and, regardless of whether we graduated in 1946 or 2006, we’re all drawn back to our days as students under the oaks in the Cistern Yard.”

The 120th A Charleston Affair will feature an upgraded gourmet menu, expanded craft beer and wine offerings in the Glebe Street Lounge, and six brand-new VIP areas, including a “Beach Club” where guests can shag the night away.
