Student Allie Stern, recipient of a  Race and Social Justice Initiative (RSJI) student leadership award, will host “Black Lives Matter: Looking at Charleston” this week. The event will examine how institutionalized racism affects Charleston’s African-American community.

Held on Thursday, April 4, 2019, from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., at the College of Charleston Stern Student Center Ballroom, 71 George St., 4F, “BlackLives Matter: Looking at Charleston,” will explore racial disparities and social justice activism through poetry and political perspectives. Presenters will include Charleston’s Poet Laureate Marcus Amaker. The event is free and open to the public.

More than 10 community and campus organizations will be on-hand to share information about what they are doing to strengthen social justice in the Charleston area.
