The Cistern Yard is getting into the holiday spirit with the third annual Cougar Night Lights holiday light show on Monday, Dec. 2, 2019, in a special showing for students.

With the College’s iconic Randolph Hall as a focal point, Cougar Night Lights captures the magic of the holiday season with dazzling light displays set to classic holiday tunes as well as popular contemporary songs. This year’s show will feature new songs and lighting displays. A presentation of the last two years’ shows will immediately follow.

“Cougar Night Lights has quickly become an end-of-semester experience for the College of Charleston community,” says Christine Workman, director of the Office of Student Life. “It is a relaxing way for students to wind down after the close of fall classes, and prepare for Reading Day and exams.”

CofC alumnus John Reynolds ’97 is once again producing and designing Cougar Night Lights. Reynolds has won multiple Emmys for his lighting displays and has done work for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Super Bowl and several summer and winter Olympic Games.

Monday’s event, which marks the last day of classes for the fall 2019 semester, is sponsored by the Office of Student Life and includes singing performances by the College’s a cappella groups, the Trippintones, Vibes and Acabelles. There will also be a large inflatable snow globe for photo ops, as well as a large inflatable snowman chair on George Street. A hot chocolate bar and soup bar featuring different kinds of fall-flavored soups will be available for students to enjoy. And the College’s 250th committee, which is organizing the College’s upcoming 250th anniversary celebration, will be giving out commemorative mugs to the first 500 students in attendance.

The a capella performances, treats and fun will begin at 5:15 p.m. President Andrew T. Hsu will give brief remarks before the start of this year’s Cougar Night Lights show at 6 p.m. Additional showings for students will be held at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4, through Friday, Dec. 6.

Following the conclusion of final exams, Cougar Night Lights will open to the general public on Dec. 14, 2019, and run nightly through Jan. 1, 2020. The musical light show will run every half hour, between 6 and 9 p.m. The Cistern Yard is located at the corner of George and St. Philip streets.
