Rochelle Johnson has been named the permanent director for the College of Charleston’s Office of Multicultural Student Programs and Services (MSPS). Johnson served as interim director for the past year.
Johnson has worked in the area of diversity and inclusion at the College for more than nine years. Prior to transitioning to MSPS in 2015, she served as the program coordinator in the Office of Institutional Diversity, where she developed diversity and inclusion programming for faculty, staff and students. Before coming to the College, she worked for a decade at various higher education institutions in the northeast in the areas of admissions, grants and contracts, and student affairs. Johnson holds a bachelor’s degree from South Carolina State University and is currently in the Leadership in Higher Education program at The Citadel.

As the associate director and then interim director for the MSPS, Johnson has directed the program and student LEADers for SPECTRA/SCAMP (Speedy Consolidation and Transition/SC Alliance for Minority Participation). She also recruits mentors and plans activities for the Mentoring Matters Program. She oversees the planning of MSPS signature events such as the MSPS Holiday Drop-In, the Multicultural Graduation Celebrations and the ExCEL Awards. Additionally, Johnson works collaboratively across campus, partnering with numerous departments on student focused diversity and inclusion initiatives.
