College of Charleston President Andrew T. Hsu sent the following message to the College of Charleston community on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2020:

Dear Campus Community,

As you know, we currently have several academic and administrative vacancies that we are actively seeking to fill. Today, I write to give you an update on all of our active searches.

First, our provost search committee is being co-chaired by Speaker of the Faculty and Professor of English Simon Lewis and Executive Vice President for Student Affairs Alicia Caudill. The committee received more than 90 applications for the position. There are numerous high-caliber individuals in the pool, and the committee will be conducting first-round interviews in mid-February. The committee plans to bring finalists to campus in March for interviews, which will include opportunities for the campus community to engage with the top candidates.

Second, our CFO and executive vice president for business affairs search is well underway. That search is being co-chaired by Chief of Staff Paul Patrick and Interim Dean of the Graduate School and Dean of the School of Professional Studies Godfrey Gibbison. The search will close in approximately one week. We have a diverse pool of candidates with strong backgrounds and a wealth of experience in higher-education financial management. The search committee is currently reviewing their application materials, and they will meet early in February to decide on a list of finalists.

Third, our Honors College dean search began late last semester. The search is being chaired by Interim Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences Gibbs Knotts. The committee includes two students. The position description was posted in mid-December and has been nationally advertised. We currently have 40 applicants and the priority deadline to apply is February 15, 2020. The committee will next meet on February 21 to identify a shortlist. Skype interviews will be conducted in early March with the hope of bringing finalists to campus in late March or early April.

Fourth, the School of Sciences and Mathematics dean search is being chaired by School of the Arts Dean Valerie Morris. The position has been nationally advertised and has an application deadline of February 28. In early March, the search committee will be meeting to go over the candidate pool and to come up with a short list of candidates for interviews. Three to five finalists will be brought to campus in late March or early April.

Lastly, we have the search for our new dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. The committee is being chaired by Dean of the Libraries John White. The committee met in December and crafted the job ad. It is posted, and applications and nominations are rolling in. The committee will meet on March 6 to narrow the candidate pool. Interviews will be conducted, and the plan is to bring finalists to campus in late March or early April.

As you can see, there is a lot happening at the College of Charleston. This is a busy and exciting time for us as we seek to place permanent leadership in many positions. As we narrow down the list of finalists for each of these positions, more information will be made available to the campus community.

Sincerely,

Andrew
