College of Charleston President Andrew T. Hsu sent the following message to faculty and staff on Thursday, July 2, 2020:
Dear Faculty and Staff:
As you have seen in the news lately, the number of positive COVID-19 cases in South Carolina has risen sharply.
In light of those increased numbers, the State of South Carolina’s Department of Administration has asked all state agencies to review and modify their phased-in work plans.
Currently, the College of Charleston is in Phase 1 of its return-to-work on campus plan. On Monday, July 6, the state government, following accelerateSC recommendations, has asked all public agencies to move into a modified Phase 2 in order to reengage the public and provide limited services. As such, the College will implement a gradual, phased-in process to re-open some key services to the public.
For the College of Charleston, specifically, that means a few of the College’s offices/departments will gradually open to the public, and many other offices will begin their previously scheduled summer work. For example, beginning July 8, New Student Programs will host orientation sessions in a virtual setting for incoming students and their families, and the Office of Admissions may begin planning to conduct abbreviated, condensed campus tours (adhering to the appropriate prevention methods of face coverings, social distancing, etc.). As before, Public Safety and Facilities Management teams will continue to operate 24/7.
However, the vast majority of the College’s employees will continue to work remotely.
More information will be communicated in the near future regarding the modified Phase 2 schedule. I appreciate your patience and flexibility as we, together, make these pivots in real time.
