The College of Charleston is offering another voluntary COVID-19 testing event on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2020, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Glebe Street next to the Stern Student Center.

The testing is free and open to all students, faculty and staff on a first-come, first-served basis for the first 350 respondents. If you participated in the last testing event on Oct. 20 and tested negative, you are eligible to be tested again on Nov. 4. The testing event, which will be conducted by the Medical University of South Carolina, will be limited to nasal swab (PCR) tests only; no saliva testing will be offered.

Future campus community testing events are scheduled for Nov. 17 and Nov. 23.

Where: Glebe Street next to Stern Student Center

Who: All students, faculty and staff who are NOT symptomatic of COVID-19

Why: To monitor virus spread in the CofC community and keep campus open

Sign-up opportunities for testing events on Nov. 17 and Nov. 23 are also available through this link: https://square.site/book/LXRET9AD52B30/college-of-charleston-covid-testing-charleston-sc

Please read the following exceptions before signing up for a testing appointment:

  1. Do NOT attend or schedule an appointment if you are symptomatic for COVID-19
  2. Students living outside of the Lowcountry area and/or those students not coming to campus should not sign up for testing.
  3. Faculty and staff living outside of the Lowcountry area and/or those faculty and staff not coming to campus should not sign up for testing.
  4.    Students, faculty and staff with a recent positive (a positive test within the last 90 days) should not be retested as the result may remain positive even outside of the 10-day isolation period although the individual is no longer capable of spreading the virus.

If you make an appointment for testing, please remember to bring to or do the following at the testing site:

  • College ID
  • Driver’s License or State ID
  • Insurance Card
  • Email Address
  • Wear a Face Mask and Practice Social Distancing
  • Sign HIPAA Statement at the Testing Site (This signed statement allows MUSC to securely communicate with the selected officials at the College of Charleston. If anyone refuses to sign the statement, they will not be offered a test.)

Testing results will be sent to you via MyChart. Individuals will be sent an email to activate their MyChart account. It is imperative to provide MUSC Health with a valid email address. This email will only be used to deliver the MyChart activation link. The College of Charleston will also receive a report with test results for each person tested. However, in some cases, those tested may be the first to receive their results.

While testing is entirely voluntary, students and employees are encouraged to consider taking part to help the College monitor the health of the campus community and be prepared to quickly respond to any upticks in positive cases.
