The recent Alumni Pep Supper campaign delivered the goods for the College of Charleston Student Emergency Fund. The virtual Alumni Pep Supper competition last month raised over $21,000 for CofC students facing financial problems due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the virtual Pep Supper, Greek alumni were asked to donate $5 or more in support of their Greek organization. The three organizations raising the most money, the highest number of donors or the highest percentage of members donating, would be rewarded with a private VIP area at the next A Charleston Affair and bragging rights for the year.

And Greek alumni enthusiastically accepted the challenge.

More than 500 donors representing 24 different Greek organizations gave $21,475 for the Student Emergency Fund. Nearly half of the donors – 44% – hadn’t made a gift in the past five years and many were first-time donors.

“We were happy that we surpassed our goal of 500 donors and we were thrilled our Greek alumni gave more than twice the dollar amount we expected,” says Ann Pryor ’83, Vice President of Alumni Affairs.

The three Greek organizations winning VIP reunions at the next A Charleston Affair are:

  • Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., for amount raised with $3,680
  • Alpha Delta Pi sorority for number of donors with 81
  • Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., for the second-highest participation rate at 10%. (AKA had the highest participation rate at 34%, but since they also won for amount donated, the Alumni Association recognized Zeta Phi Beta for their support.)

“Alumnae of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. set the pace and inspired everyone with their generosity”, says Pryor. “The Pep Supper tradition remains strong at the College and we can’t wait for next year!”
