With final exams for the spring 2021 semester beginning later this week, College of Charleston President Andrew T. Hsu on Monday, April 19, shared some select tunes to help students study:
Dear Students:
As we go into the last week of classes and begin final exams this Friday, I imagine many of you are working extra hard right now to wrap up the spring semester.
With the help of my daughters and several students (special shout-out to Alex and Jay from Prism and Maddie Gies and her roommates for their great suggestions!), I put together this Spotify playlist to help you in your studying (either as background music or during a much-needed study break). I threw in some of my classical favorites, too!

It’s a wide-ranging mix of music, so I hope you find something you like or even discover a new favorite. I know I did.
There are a few songs I want to point out. First, “Red Wine” is performed by a group of CofC students (Coleman Gould, Patrick Walsh and Andrew Clarke) called the Tennis Courts. The song “It’s Alright the Way That You Are” is performed by Donald Merckle (Class of 2019) and a member of our Division of Business Affairs (you can see his video for the song here). The Darius Rucker track, “Come Back Song,” is in recognition of his great comments about the College of Charleston in this clip from Discover South Carolina (go to :45–1:03 in the video to hear what he has to say about the College of Charleston). And, the Abba and Mozart selections are in honor of our CofC students, who did such an amazing job of performing selections from a variety of musical numbers and Le Nozze di Figaro out at the College’s Stono Preserve this spring for Arts Under the Oaks.
Happy listening and best of luck on your finals!
Sincerely,
Andrew T. Hsu, Ph.D.
