College of Charleston President Andrew T. Hsu shared the following message with the campus community on Wednesday, June 2, 2021:
Dear Campus Community,
I’m writing to inform you of a new awareness campaign the College of Charleston is conducting to encourage our students to get the COVID-19 vaccination before returning to campus for fall semester.
The campaign, called “Vax on the Bricks,” plays off the name of the College’s COVID-19 response plan and website, Back on the Bricks. Spearheaded by the Division of Student Affairs, this campaign will be promoted through the College’s news and social media channels. Our goal is to have 90 percent of our students vaccinated and to encourage students to upload their vaccination record to the Student Health Services using the College of Charleston COVID-19 Vaccine Documentation Portal.
Vax on the Bricks offers a variety of incentives as students strive to reach the 90 percent threshold. For example, if we reach 70 percent, the College will bring back the very popular puppy therapy event for Weeks of Welcome! If we reach 80 percent, we will celebrate with a pizza party on Rivers Green. And if we reach 90 percent, I will happily sit in a dunk tank at a campus celebration on George Street, along with other games and prizes.
For more information on Vax on the Bricks, please visit our Back on the Bricks website here.
I’m also pleased to announce that today the College joined the national COVID-19 College Vaccine Challenge, which is being spearheaded by the White House and the U.S. Department of Education to help end the pandemic. In support of this effort, the College has committed to getting our campus community vaccinated by engaging every student, faculty and staff member; organizing our campus community; and providing vaccine access.
Sincerely,
Andrew
