Although the state’s final funding for raises for full-time state employees has shifted down slightly from 3% to 2.5%, College of Charleston officials have budgeted to keep the increase at 3% for CofC employees.

Governor Henry McMaster has approved the FY 2021โ€“2022 budget as submitted by the S.C. General Assembly. Among the many items that will have a positive impact on the College in the coming year is a 2.5% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) approved by the governor to full-time state employeesโ€™ salaries, which will take effect July 1, 2021. An earlier proposal had placed the COLA at 3%, but it was passed at the lower figure.

“I am happy to report that even though we, as a state institution, are required to only meet the 2.5-percent increase, I, along with the entire senior leadership team, feel it is important that we keep the original 3-percent increase in place,” said College of Charleston President Andrew T. Hsu in a message to faculty and staff. “This additional 0.5-percent increase represents an additional investment in our faculty and staff and is a symbol of appreciation for your incredibly hard work this past year during the pandemic. You are our greatest asset, and I believe we are an exceptional institution because of our people.”

All eligible full-time staff employees will receive a 3% increase to their base pay beginning in their July 15 paycheck. All eligible full-time faculty employees will receive a 3% increase in their base pay in their Aug. 31 paycheck.ย
