Name: Chris Bond

Hometown: Savannah, Georgia

Education: Bachelor of General Studies, emphasis in sport management and philosophy, from Georgia Southern University

Job title: Assistant Director of Facilities and Operations, Student Life

How long have you worked at the College? 6 years – started September 2015

What are your job responsibilities? Overseeing facility management and operations of the Stern Student Center and other venues managed by the Office of Student Life (student involvement and leadership).

What do you like most about your job? Being able to provide a space outside of the classroom for students to work together and collaborate on ideas that can impact them while here on campus.

What question do you get asked most in your job and what’s your typical answer? “So … What exactly is in the Stern Student Center?” Admittedly, our student center doesn’t give off “student center” vibes to our campus community. It’s more of an “office building” when you first walk in. However, when I am asked that (mostly during tours over the summer), I walk prospective students and their parents through what we have to offer – from our meeting room spaces, game room, lounge areas, food pantry … just to name a few.

What’s your favorite location on campus and why? I would say the Stern Gardens. It’s a place where you can step away from your desk and your computer screen just to give yourself a mental break. Especially in the back part where it’s really quiet and serene – until the kiddos from the daycare next door come out to play.

What are your hobbies? I play flag football for a city league in my spare time. I also watch a lot of sports.

Name a creative work (book, movie, performance, etc.) you enjoyed recently and why? Since it is still fresh in my mind, I would say the Netflix miniseries Midnight Mass. The performances by Rahul Koli, Samantha Sloyan and Hamish Linklater are some of the best I have ever seen on screen. Especially in the horror/thriller genre.

What was your favorite TV show growing up? Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

What’s next on your bucket list? Take a trip to Spain.

What is something your campus colleagues would be surprised to know about you? I’ve never been on a boat.

What was your first job? Busboy/prep cook at a local restaurant back home in Savannah

What’s your favorite Lowcountry restaurant? Rita’s Seaside Grille

Describe your perfect day: My perfect day would start early, around 7 a.m., with a steak-and-eggs breakfast, with coffee. Get my home cleaned – from laundry to the baseboards. Then have everything spic and span before college football starts. Then watch football uninterrupted for 12 hours. That’s my perfect day.
