The College of Charleston’s necessary renovation of Marcia Kelly McAlister Hall has reduced housing options on campus for the 2022-23 academic year. The College recognizes this presents unexpected challenges for returning students and families and has scheduled two in-person housing fairs and one virtual housing fair so students and families can learn about off-campus housing in a convenient setting.

Housing Fairs on Cougar Mall

Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The in-person fairs will feature local apartment operators who will share information about off-campus housing options for students. Wednesday, Feb. 23, is an alternative rain/inclement weather date.

Virtual Fair on Cougar Connect

Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The virtual fair will feature the same local apartment operators as those at the in-person fairs, who will present the off-campus housing options they have available.

The following seven off-campus housing providers will be available for students to secure housing and answer questions:

“The housing fair is a great opportunity for our students to explore options and speak with housing providers to secure housing,” says Cande Cook, director of special projects for the Division of Student Affairs.

Financial aid is available for off-campus housing. The following information is from the Office of Financial Assistance and Veterans Affairs:

Students who live off campus may be able to use any excess financial aid to pay for off-campus living expenses. Once we disburse financial aid to a student account, all institutional charges are covered first (which is usually tuition and fees, and any campus meal plans). After institutional charges have been satisfied, if the student has an excess balance, the Treasurer’s Office will process student/parent refunds. These excess refunds may be used to help with the student’s off-campus living expenses. Financial Aid refunds are processed just prior to the start of classes.

If you have not yet set up direct deposit — the fastest way to receive your refund — please click on the following link: How do I set-up a refund direct deposit account?

If you have already set up direct deposit, you do not have to do anything further.

Every student’s financial aid situation is different. If you have further questions about your financial aid, please contact the Office of Financial Assistance and Veterans Affairs at financialaid@cofc.edu or 843.953.5540.

Additional information about limited housing and how it affects the housing application process for the 2022-23 year is on the Campus Housing website. For further questions about on-campus housing, please email housing@cofc.edu or call 843.953.2015.
