Activities at the College of Charleston this past week have ranged from the Halsey Institute’s annual visual arts competition and the orchestra’s annual spring concert to the Mroz Institute’s Inaugural Convening, an AALANA inclusion event and a greenhouse gathering to support Lowcountry marsh grass.

On Wednesday, March 23 the Setting Minority Students up for Success, AALANA event was held in the Stern Center Ballroom. The event focused on preparing CofC minority students for success after graduation with a panel of CofC alumni that reflected on how being a person of color shaped their time at CofC and prepared them for a successful career after college.

On Wednesday, March 23, 2022, the Office of University Communications hosted a panel discussion titled “Setting Minority Students Up for Success” in the Stern Center Ballroom. The College of Charleston Orchestra presented a concert headlining renowned Grammy Award–winning violinist Augustin Hadelich in a performance of Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s lush and virtuosic Violin Concerto, op. 35. Conducted by Yuriy Bekker, CofC music faculty, and presented by the Department of Music at the Sottile Theatre, the concert began with a tribute to the citizens of Ukraine with the Ukranian national anthem, followed by a performance by senior music and arts management double-major, pianist Mischa Pekar with the CofC Orchestra. Marsh Grass

Volunteers use the College of Charleston greenhouse behind Rivers Green to propagate spartina (marsh grass) to help restore marsh habitats. Involving both the College and the S.C. The opening reception of Young Contemporaries 2022 was held at the Halsey Institute for Contemporary Art on March 18, 2022.
