On April 7, 2022, more than 225 students from disciplines across the College of Charleston campus will share their mentored research, scholarship, creative inquiry and community service projects during the inaugural EXPO, the College’s most comprehensive celebration of student achievements.
Free and open to the public, the EXPO will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in TD Arena (301 Meeting St.). Leslie Hart, associate professor of public health, will kick off the event with a keynote address, after which CofC undergraduates and graduate students will share their work through poster sessions and live talks, depending on the format of their projects. The EXPO will feature projects conducted during the summer of 2021 or the 2021-22 academic year.
“We are thrilled to be able to bring students together from all disciplines and showcase their great work,” says Suzanne Austin, executive vice president for academic affairs and provost at the College of Charleston. “By leveraging all of the collaborations already happening across campus, we are able to offer a large-scale demonstration of our students’ accomplishments and by extension the faculty and staff who support and mentor our students. Let me add that the EXPO is not intended to replace any other events at the school or department levels that highlight our students’ accomplishments.”
“The EXPO is about bringing the entire campus together to celebrate the work students and faculty are doing, and to share that work with the local community,” adds Honors College Dean Beth Meyer-Bernstein. “It also gives our students yet another opportunity to practice and enhance their professional communication skills, to advocate publicly for their research and for themselves, and to network.”
All participating students will be considered for awards from all seven schools within the College, the Alumni Association and Phi Kappa Phi honor society.
