The College of Charleston Alumni Association recently launched a new program, Share Your Chair, in celebration of the graduating Class ofย 2022 and the rich tradition of the unique College of Charleston graduation.
Alumni, parents and friends of the College are invited to congratulate the graduating students and share their wisdom with the new alumni in the form of a message displayed on the back of commencement chairs.
โWe want our newest graduates to know they are joining an alumni network nearly 100,000 strong that supports them from across the country and around the world,โ says Derrick Williams โ99, president of the Alumni Association. โOur goal is to have all 500 graduation chairs sponsored this year with a message from alumni, parents and friends.โ
Donations of $20.22 will sponsor a chair used by a graduating student at the commencement ceremonies on May 6 and 7, 2022. A label will be placed on the back of the chair displaying the sponsorโs words of encouragement, name and class year, degree(s), major(s) and current city. The funds raised will be used for scholarships for CofC students.
โEach alumnus who has crossed the Cistern to graduate understands we carry the College in our hearts, no matter where life takes us,โ says Laurie Minges โ83, vice president of the Alumni Association. โThis campaign celebrates the Class of 2022 and the rich tradition of our unique ceremony.โ
