Name: Conner Blouin

Hometown: Tampa, Florida

Education: B.S., Washington College (economics); M.S., UMass Amherst (sport management)

Job title: Assistant Sailing Coach

How long have you worked at the College? Four years

What are your job responsibilities? Coaching the sailing team in practices and at events.

What do you like most about your job? Getting to watch and discuss my sport all day long, and sharing my passion for the sport with others is amazing.

What’s your favorite location on campus and why? The varsity gym; it reminds me of all of the great resources our school provides our athletes.

What are your hobbies? I continue to compete in sailing in my spare time; training and practicing takes up most of my spare time.

What personal and/or professional accomplishment are you most proud of? I played a small part in coaching the women’s team to a national championship last year.  I was proud of them and the small role I had in helping them find success at that event.

Name a creative work (book, movie, performance, etc.) you enjoyed recently – why? I really enjoyed watching 1917 in theaters. It was the last movie I saw in a theater.  Not only was it an amazing film, and a rare film that is meant for the big screen, but I enjoyed that a war film could put forth the message that people can solve problems without violence.

What was your favorite TV show growing up? The Simpsons and Friends were all I could watch growing up because we had rabbit ears on our TV. I love Breaking Bad and Succession now.

What is something your campus colleagues would be surprised to know about you? I ran a 6-minute, 15-seconds mile on my presidential fitness test in first grade. I think I was 3 feet, 6 inches tall at the time, haha.

What was your first job? I worked as a claim handler for an insurance company in workers’ compensation out of college.

What’s your favorite Lowcountry restaurant? I wish I got out more, but I would have to say Home Team in West Ashley.

Describe your perfect day: Wake up, big breakfast, sail for three hours, work out, cold beer on the porch.
