This year’s awards season started a little early, with the Southeastern Chamber of Commerce honoring College of Charleston President Andrew T. Hsu with its 2022 Humanitarian of the Year Award at its annual awards gala on Aug. 25, 2022.
Tommy Baker, who was last year’s recipient of the humanitarian award and is a longtime member of CofC’s School of Business Board of Governors, presented the humanitarian award to Hsu at a black-tie affair hosted at Baker’s Porsche Charleston location.
In accepting the award, Hsu said, “While I may be recognized individually tonight, I receive this honor on behalf of the College of Charleston and our entire campus community. A university is a space and place in our society where humanitarian work is done each and every day. The work of a university is one that can be a service to us all.
“On a personal level,” Hsu continued, “this award means very much to me. Education is a catalyst for change – it also serves as our common ground.”
The Southeastern Chamber of Commerce, headquartered in North Charleston, has roots dating back to 2005, when it was founded as the Charleston Networking Association. Formally rebranded in 2011, the Southeastern Chamber of Commerce works with members to develop strategies and set policies to better serve all business and tourism interests through the region.
