Elaine Conde

Background: I am from Brazil originally. I worked for several years as an office manager for a language training company and as an ESL instructor in private companies in the São Paulo region.

Interests: My priorities are being close to my family, taking care of my health and having a job where I can use my full potential and expand my skills. Spending time with my family, riding a bike, watching movies and going to the beach are some of my favorite activities to do in my spare time. Listening to jazz and cooking are my hobbies.

Looking Forward: I realized that I work best in educational environments, so I look forward to learning a lot and being part of the mathematics department team.

Background: I graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in English and I spent several years teaching.

Interests: I like to write, paint and do anything creative.

Looking Forward: Liberal arts schools offer so many opportunities, especially to those who love creative expression. I’m looking forward to seeing all the arts on campus, including performances and displays. Getting to support this community and see it grow and thrive will be wonderful.

Background: I am from Charleston, South Carolina. I completed my bachelor’s degree in exercise science at the College of Charleston in May 2022. I am currently in my last semester for my master’s degree in sport management at The Citadel Military College. During my undergrad at CofC, I worked in the Johnson Center as a student employee for Campus Recreation Services.

Interests: In my spare time, I enjoy watching soccer games with my friends, playing golf with my cousins, spending time with my family and having movie nights. I also enjoy long walks in downtown Charleston during the cooler months.

Looking Forward: I am looking forward to working in an open and friendly environment, and being able to meet and work with the many diverse groups of students and colleagues that we have on campus.

Jacquelyn McGaha

Background: I’m a North Carolina native but have spent the past five years living in Florida. I graduated from Florida State University with a B.S. in retail entrepreneurship and merchandising, and a minor in professional communications. Before coming to CofC, I worked as the director of events and communications for Dillard’s department stores in the Southeast.

Interests: I love spending as much of my time outdoors as I can, and am attempting to become a better home chef. I’m also a huge dog lover, and am looking forward to getting involved with the Charleston Animal Society.

Looking Forward: Being raised on the East Coast and growing up on the Outer Banks, I am excited to be back in the best climate, with the best food and best hospitality in the country.

Eva Minguine

Background: I am a native of Charleston, South Carolina, and, after graduating from Clemson University, I moved back to Charleston to begin my human resources career. I previously worked at Mercedes-Benz Vans supporting leadership and team members with a variety of HR-related topics in addition to managing the HRIS platforms. Most recently I worked at BOSSCAT Inc., a growing startup for real estate repair services, as a recruitment specialist leading the recruitment efforts, launching new HRIS systems, supporting internal and external customers, and being integral in providing transparency and transformation to data.

Interests: I enjoy spending quality time with my friends and family, either enjoying a new restaurant, going to the beach or kicking back at a brewery. I also love listening to music or reading a good book to unwind.

Looking Forward: I am excited to join CofC and become a part of the Office of Human Resources and work with a dynamic team. I am looking forward to using my years of human resources experience to support the initiatives of the university by providing data-driven solutions and also be an effective resource to my colleagues.

Background: I am from North Carolina and attended East Carolina University, where I got my B.S. and M.A. in sociology. While getting my master’s degree, I was also a graduate assistant, working alongside my professors and assisting them with research, teaching and student assistance. After graduating, I took a position through AmeriCorps, where I worked for a year in Maryland as a social/emotional mentor for at-risk students.

Interests: Spending time with people I love is very important to me. I also love getting outdoors and exploring new areas. This is great for me since I love the beach and will be new to the Charleston area.

Looking Forward: I am looking forward to creating a community at CofC and bringing assistance and guidance to the students here!

Background: I’m a Charleston native and I earned my B.S. degree in political science from Charleston Southern University, my M.A. from Webster University and my Ed.D. from Gwynedd Mercy University. I have over 10 years of higher education experience, including admissions, international education (through CofC’s CIE) and college readiness.

Interests: Serving students and their families are very important to me. I love seeing students accomplish their goals. When I’m not working, I enjoy traveling, spending time with my family and going to the beach.

Looking Forward: I’m looking forward to providing guidance and support to students as they work toward earning their degrees.

Background: I was an RA (undergrad) and RHD (grad school). I worked with school districts and Trio Upward Bound as a school counselor. Now I am elated to be back in housing at my alma mater! Go Cougars!

Interests: I love spending time with my family, playing and teaching people how to play spades, cooking and true crime.

Looking Forward: I look forward to learning every day, meeting/rekindling with amazing people here and having a positive impact on this campus! I love CofC so much and I am so happy to be here!

Rita Wedge

Background: I am originally from Upstate New York, near Syracuse. I have been a public school teacher at the elementary level in South Carolina and New York State for a total of 38 years, teaching students with special needs and kindergarten, and as a math intervention specialist. I recently moved back to the Charleston area.

Interests: I am an avid reader, a sports fan and a movie watcher, and I enjoy jigsaw puzzles. I love to spend time with my family, my grand-dogs and friends. I prefer to be out in nature whenever I can, weather permitting, especially near the ocean. I am passionate about sustainability, the ocean and sea turtles.

Looking Forward: I am looking forward to working with and getting to know the amazing, knowledgeable team at the Academic Advising and Planning Center! I am excited to advise students as they acclimate to CofC and pursue academic excellence and envision their future dreams and successes.
