The 123rd annual alumni reception, A Charleston Affair, will be held on May 4, 2024, 7–10 p.m., and will feature significant enhancements to improve each guest’s experience.
Upgrades include a premium open bar in General Admission, early entry for VIP ticket holders, an exciting new menu, and doubling down on last year’s décor and lighting. Back by popular demand, the Fantasy Band – who played at A Charleston Affair from 2017 to 2019 – will keep everyone dancing under the oaks in Cistern Yard while The Coppertones perform classic oldies and beach music in the top VIP area, “The Party at Peatsy’s.”
The total number of attendees will be capped at 3,000 to reduce crowding and lines, so the event will be more exclusive than in the past. Limited ticket sales will open in late February. In addition to general admission, tickets will be available for five VIP areas this year, including Randolph Hall, the Rita Liddy Hollings Science Center, Craig Hall and Courtyard, Towell Library and the Sottile House. Net proceeds support the Alumni Association’s programs and services for the College.
The Alumni Association began hosting an annual reception to welcome the College’s graduating students into its membership in 1900. In 2008, the association revamped the event into A Charleston Affair to draw alumni back to campus for an annual celebration. The footprint has expanded from Cistern Yard to now encompass most of the main campus from Calhoun to Wentworth and St. Philip to Coming streets.
Aramark Collegiate Hospitality Executive Chef and Chopped alumna Tonya Williams personally designs the menu to tempt every palate, including bespoke sushi crafted by award-winning Chef Masa Yamashita. Guests enjoy an open bar of delicious craft cocktails, mocktails, premium beers and wines.
