Kelly Lake
Director, Office of Student Services and Credentialing

Background: My husband and I moved to Charleston after we graduated from Elon University in 2006. After attending Elon, I went on to earn a masterโ€™s degree in educational leadership from the Southern Wesleyan University as well as additional coursework in school administration at Gardner-Webb University. Before joining the College of Charleston team, I spent 16 years working in Charleston County Schools as a teacher and administrator. Most recently, I was a school administrator at a K-8 charter school in Charleston.

Interests: My spare time is mostly dedicated to spending time with my family, being the personal chauffeur for my 10-year-old daughter, reading and trying (sometimes unsuccessfully) not to kill my houseplants. I enjoy checking out new restaurants, concerts and community events around Charleston.

Looking Forward: Education has always been my passion, and I am most looking forward to supporting new classes of pre-service teachers as they become highly competent and successful educators.

Marissa Wheeler
Decision Support Analyst, Office of Institutional Research

Background: I grew up in Williamsburg, Virginia. I earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from The College of William & Mary in 2016. After graduation, I worked in Washington, D.C., for a nonprofit organization called GuideStar (now Candid). That experience got me interested in databases and also in using data for impactful philanthropy. I came to Charleston in 2019 as an AmeriCorps volunteer working with One80 Place to serve the homeless.

Interests: I enjoy exploring Charleston and taking in the scenic views. After work I will be reading, cooking, playing tennis or watching Netflix. I also love dogs and can’t wait to adopt my own.

Looking Forward: I am coming off two years working as a [temporary] data analyst in the Office of Admissions, so I’m not exactly new to CofC. But I am looking forward to growing my circles and meeting more of the awesome people who work here.
