Bright lights, great music and the entire College of Charleston basketball family came together on Sunday evening for the second annual Basketball Block Party, a spectacular event held on historic George Street.
Arriving together, The College’s men’s and women’s basketball teams – led by first year head coaches Earl Grant and Candice M. Jackson – were welcomed by hundreds of supporters at the corner of George and St. Philip where some of the Colonial Athletic Association’s best fans got their first look at a new era of Charleston basketball.
“I am so proud to be here,” said men’s head basketball coach Earl Grant. “This is a special event and a special place. I can’t wait to see all of these fans at TD Arena. I suspect there will be a lot of games this season where they make the difference for us.”
With the beautiful Cistern Yard serving as a perfect back drop, players, coaches and fans alike danced, mingled and enjoyed activities such as face painting, photo booths, a bounce house, giant corn hole, skee-ball and pop-a-shot amongst others.
“It was a fantastic night,” said women’s head coach Candice M. Jackson. “The season is right around the corner and it was great to see all of these fans come out and support us. Home court advantage is important in college basketball and with this group; I think we’ll have just that.”
The women’s 2014-15 home opener is set for Sunday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. (ET) against UNC Greensboro, while the men kick off their campaign on Friday, Nov. 14, at 8 p.m. (ET) versus Furman, in Greenville, S.C.
