On April 13, 2023, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in TD Arena (301 Meeting St.), 270 students representing all of the College of Charleston’s academic schools will share their mentored research, scholarship, creative inquiry and community service projects during the institution’s second annual EXPO. The College’s most comprehensive celebration of student achievement is free and open to the public.
In advance of the student presentations, Matthew T. Rutter, professor of biology and academic director for the College’s Stono Preserve, will give a keynote address about his research on plant ecology and population genetics from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. in TD Arena’s McAlister Hospitality Suite.
The EXPO will feature projects conducted during the summer of 2022 and the 2022-2023 academic year. While most students will present their work as an academic poster, 14 students have been selected to give oral presentations in the McAlister Hospitality Suite. Additionally, the School of the Arts will feature student performances in TD Arena’s Cougars Den.
“The EXPO gives students from all disciplines the opportunity to come together and showcase their great work and recognize the faculty and staff who support and mentor them,” says Suzanne Austin, executive vice president for academic affairs and provost at the College of Charleston.
“We are excited to share what our students are doing with the broader campus and local community,” adds Honors College Dean Beth Meyer-Bernstein. “The EXPO serves as an opportunity for our students to strengthen their professional communication skills, build their network and learn about the exciting projects that are occurring all over campus.”
Participating students will be considered for awards from all academic schools within the College, the graduate school, the Alumni Association and Phi Kappa Phi honor society. An award ceremony will be held immediately following the event in the McAlister Hospitality Suite.
