The Bully Pulpit Series at the College of Charleston will host a town hall with Mitch Landrieu, senior advisor and infrastructure coordinator in the President Joe Biden administration. Landrieu is serving as surrogate for the Biden campaign and will meet with faculty, staff, students and the community as part of the College of Charleston Bully Pulpit Series on Jan. 31, 2024.
The event will take place in the Stern Student Center (71 George St.), room 205, from 10 to 11 a.m. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. This event is free to attend and open to the public. There is a clear bag policy in place for this event.
Landrieu has served in President Joe Biden’s administration since 2021, overseeing investments in roads, bridges, rail, ports, airports, mass transit, high-speed internet, clean energy and climate resilience. Prior to his work in the Biden administration, Landrieu was mayor of New Orleans (2010–18) amid the recovery efforts from Hurricane Katrina and the BP oil spill. He worked to secure billions in federal funding for roads, schools, hospitals, parks and critical infrastructure to bolster the city. Landrieu gained national prominence for his powerful decision to take down four Confederate monuments in New Orleans, which also earned him the prestigious John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award.
The mission of the Bully Pulpit Series is to encourage and facilitate political participation throughout the College of Charleston community by providing a platform for dialogue with our nation’s leaders. At its core, the series engages today’s youth by meeting students where they are – in the classroom, outside their residence hall and through their social networks – to create curious, informed and engaged individuals who are ready and able to engender political and social change.
