State Representative Nikki Haley will speak at the College of Charleston on June 18, 2010 as part of “The College of Charleston Series on Lowcountry Politics and Communication.” Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, who endorsed Haley for Governor of South Carolina last March, will join Haley for this on-campus event.
The event will take place in College of Charleston’s historic Alumni Hall (located on the second floor of Randolph Hall). The program will begin at 8:15 a.m. A reception will be held immediately following the program.
As part of this non-partisan series, all state gubernatorial candidates have been invited to the College of Charleston campus.
“This series is a forum for candidates to talk with our students and the greater Charleston community,” said Dr. Philip Jos, chairman of the Department of Political Science at the College of Charleston. “The College is looking forward to hosting this series and offering our students an opportunity to learn from these gubernatorial candidates.”
“The College of Charleston Series on Lowcountry Politics and Communication” is a joint effort of the College’s Department of Communication and the Department of Political Science. Each event in the series offers students and faculty the opportunity to analyze the ideas of each candidate.
With the largest undergraduate major at the College of Charleston, the Department of Communication enrolls more than 800 students in its undergraduate and graduate programs. Students in the department study such topics as political communication, interpersonal communication, journalism, and public relations. The department is housed in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The Department of Political Science serves almost 400 undergraduate majors and supports a variety of interdisciplinary programs as well as graduate programs in public administration and environmental studies. The department is housed in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
