ASU Law Professor James Hodge ’89
James Hodge ’89, a professor of public health law and ethics at the Sandra Day O’Conner School of Law at Arizona State University and an alumnus of the College of Charleston, will discuss the issue of gun control at a public lecture at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2015.
The lecture, titled “Averting Tragedy Through Gun Prevention & Control: Issues of Law and Policy,” will take place in Room 227 of Addlestone Library, 205 Calhoun St. The talk is open to the public.
Hodge is a 1989 graduate of the Honors College at the College of Charleston and is the recipient of the 2014 Honors College Distinguished Alumni Award. He is currently teaching a summer course – Public Health Law and Ethics – at the College as part of the Honors College’s Summer Institute.
Hodge is a national expert on emergency legal preparedness and ethics and public health information privacy law and policy. His work has been cited in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, USA Today, Newsweek, NBC News, Baltimore Sun, Dallas Morning News, and prestigious journals including Science, JAMA, New England Journal of Medicine, and the American Journal of Public Health.
Before joining the College of Law in 2009, he was promoted to full professor at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health; served as an adjunct professor of law at Georgetown University Law Center; was a core faculty member of the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics; and served as executive director of the Centers for Law and the Public’s Health: A Collaborative at Johns Hopkins and Georgetown Universities.
