The Center for the Documentary at the College of Charleston produced a film that will premier on ETV on October 8 at 10:00 p.m. “In Search of Ambrosio Gonzales: Soldier Under Two Flags” tells the story of Ambrosio Jose Gonzales, a freedom-fighter, Cuban patriot and Confederate Colonel. The documentary follows his involvement in the Cuban filibuster movement of the 1840s and 50s, the American Civil War and Reconstruction.
College of Charleston history professor David Gleeson is featured as an expert in the film. Segments of the documentary are also filmed at Dixie Plantation and the Blacklock House.
The Center for the Documentary will host a book signing and reception on October 7 at 6:00 p.m. in the Education Center (25 St. Philip Street, Room 118). Dr. Antonio Rafael de la Cova, author and historian of the book inspiring the film will answer questions and sign copies of his book.
