Clyde the Cougar and Dean Fran Welch present College of Charleston posters to more than 30 alumni educators at West Ashley High School for use in their classrooms.
In recognition of National Education Week in November, the College sent a surprise to more than 2,300 alumni educators across South Carolina. Each received a poster featuring a gorgeous image of Randolph Hall with the word “Boundless.” The Educators were asked to hang it in their classroom or school, giving students a glimpse of the College’s beauty and a reminder that, with the right education, their opportunities are unlimited.
In a note that accompanied the posters, Fran Welch, dean of the College’s School of Education, Health and Human Performance, thanked the alumni educators for their service:
“As the School of Education, Health, and Human Performance celebrates 85 years of national distinction, I hope you share in the belief that your experience at the College of Charleston provided you with the power to unlock your limitless potential as an educator and social change agent. Not only do you have boundless opportunities, Boundless also represents the promise of our students, the distinction of our faculty and your enduring spirit as an alumni. Together we are united in commitment to serve and improve the quality of life for all.”

Many alumni educators were excited to receive a reminder of their alma mater and to introduce the College of Charleston to their students. Canisha Fletcher ’95, a curriculum resource teacher at Hand Middle School in Columbia, S.C., and Jon Stevens ’01, assistant principal at White Knoll Elementary in Lexington County, S.C., both hung their posters in their offices. Shauna Buczkowki ’11, a teacher in Lexington County, hung her poster in her classroom, reporting that she was “proud to be CofC alumni!”
The “Boundless” poster received by these alums also refers to the College’s Boundless campaign to raise more than $125 million by June 2016. The funds raised will fulfill immediate and long-term needs across campus. Beyond fundraising, BOUNDLESS strives to engage students, alumni, faculty, staff, supporters, parents and community members in the life of the College with events on campus and across the country, to encourage philanthropy among stakeholders, and to foster a sense of community among all those connected to the College.
Additionally, the College is showing its appreciation of teachers and school administrators by inviting alumni educators and their guest to Education Appreciation Night at the TD Arena at 4 p.m. on Jan. 16, 2015, when the Cougar men’s basketball team takes on Elon University.
