The fourth annual Jeremy’s Scholarship Gala, a fundraising event to benefit aspiring teachers, will be held Thursday, April 7, 2011 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. at The Lighthouse on The Creek in Mt. Pleasant.  The event is hosted by the College of Charleston’s School of Education, Health, and Human Performance and the Chuck and Sara Calhoun Davis Foundation, and will feature live entertainment by the Chris Crosby Group and silent and live auctions with guest emcee Rob Fowler of WCBD.

Event proceeds benefit the Jeremy Warren Vann Memorial Scholarship, created by Chuck and Sara Calhoun Davis in memory of their son, a graduate of the College of Charleston. Jeremy aspired to become an elementary school teacher but lost his life in an automobile accident before he was able to fulfill his dream.

Eighteen students have benefited from scholarships from the Davis Foundation, which funds tuition during their clinical internships. Future teachers work full time as student teachers in public school classrooms without pay during their clinical internships. Though invaluable to their preparation for teaching careers, an internship requires tremendous time commitment, making secondary jobs difficult and financial resources tight for these students.

Auction items include a four passenger golf car from Club Car, golf for four at Reynolds Plantation, a party for 50 catered by Charleston Outdoor Catering, a five day stay at a luxury condo in Zihuatanejo, Mexico, jewelry, original art and more.

Tickets for the gala are $100 per person and tables of six are $750.
