Physician and College of Charleston alumna Fran Mixson Kunda ’82 has been named the 2016-17 Family Physician of the Year by the South Carolina Academy of Family Physicians.
Kunda, a native of Orangeburg, South Carolina, graduated from the College with a degree in biology before attending medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina. She resides in Chesnee, South Carolina, and practices medicine in Spartanburg County.
The award honors an outstanding South Carolina family physician who provides patients with compassionate and comprehensive care and serves as a role model in the community.
Kunda joined the Spartanburg Regional Family Medicine Residency Program as an assistant professor of family medicine three years ago and has been named Faculty Member of the Year for two of the past three years. In addition to representing her profession on several local and state boards, she has also volunteered her medical expertise in Central America and Africa.
