Due to inclement weather related to Hurricane Hermine, the College of Charleston has cancelled all classes and College activities for Friday, Sept. 2, 2016.
This cancellation affects all classes, labs, meetings and other activities scheduled at the downtown campus (including Harbor Walk and Avery Research Center), North Campus, Patriot’s Point, Grice Marine Lab and the Lowcountry Graduate Center.
All non-essential employees should not report to work. Essential employees from areas such as public safety, physical plant, residence hall and food service should report to work as previously scheduled. Supervisors should notify their employees as soon as possible regarding their employees’ work schedule for Friday. Supervisors also should work with their employees to make-up work hours at a mutually convenient time.
Per our fall semester make-up schedule, the College will hold make-classes/labs on Saturday, Oct. 8.
Most biology, chemistry, geology and physics labs that meet on Fridays will have make-up labs on Saturday, Oct. 8, the official weather make-up day. Students in these labs should check with their instructors to confirm make-up provisions.
All residence halls remain open for Friday and throughout the weekend on their normal schedule. Dining facilities will close on Friday on the following schedule: Liberty Street Fresh Food Company at 2 p.m., Einstein Bros. Bagels at 3 p.m.; and City Bistro, Chick Fil-A and Market 159 at 8 p.m.
The Addlestone Library will be open from 7:30 a.m. to noon on Friday, Sept. 2, with limited services. Depending on the path of the storm and conditions on campus, the library may choose to extend or alter its hours of operation. Please check the library website (http://library.cofc.edu) for the most up-to-date information regarding hours and services. The library will return to normal operating hours on Saturday, Sept. 3.
The Department of Theatre and Dance’s production of Romeo and Juliet for Friday, Sept. 2, has been cancelled. Note: the production for Thursday, Sept. 1, will be performed as scheduled. For those holding tickets for Friday’s performance, the Romeo and Juliet make-up performance will take place on Monday, Sept. 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel Theatre.
All of the College’s normal activities will resume on Saturday, Sept. 3.
The College will be closely monitoring the weather conditions throughout the weekend and will inform you if there are any additional changes to the College’s class schedule and hours of operation. Any updates will be posted to emergency.cofc.edu.
Anyone needing assistance should contact the Department of Public Safety at 843.953.5611 (emergency) or 843.953.5609 (non-emergency).
We urge the entire College of Charleston community to follow the National Service Weather and local media for any possible changes in weather.
