The College of Charleston has teamed with Motley Rice LLC and YEScarolina to offer the first “Biz Apps” Camp for middle and high school students with the DAE Foundation. The three week-long technology entrepreneurship program is hosted by the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship and the Department of Computer Science, Software Innovations Lab at the College of Charleston through June 23, 2011.
The Biz Apps Camp is taught by Lancie Affonso who is a Certified Entrepreneurship Teacher and teaches computer science and business courses at the College of Charleston. Affonso is also the founder of NetGen Consulting, a non-profit that provides technology training programs for youth entrepreneurs. During the camp students are learning about cloud computing and how to utilize Google Apps. Joshua Wooten and Joshua Moser, computer science students at the College of Charleston are teaching the students how to create Android mobile applications for their business.
The College of Charleston’s Software Innovations Lab accommodates world-class scholars seeking a high-energy environment conducive to revolutionary achievement. Motivated by a desire to provide SaaS and mobile apps to user-driven social and economic needs, the Software Innovations Lab provides the context, tools and technological expertise required to foster invention and technology entrepreneurship.

YEScarolina, a program partner of the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), is a nonprofit organization created to offer South Carolina educators the opportunity to utilize curriculum written by acclaimed business teacher Steve Mariotti, found of NFTE. Through entrepreneurship education, YEScarolina helps young people from communities statewide build skills and unlock their entrepreneurial creativity. To date, YEScarolina has trained over 500 NFTE Certified Entrepreneurship Teachers who have in turn touched the lives of thousands of young South Carolinians with this wonderful and innovative entrepreneurship curriculum.
DAE Foundation’s mission is to educate and train student-athletes to become skilled, effective and responsible citizens of their communities. The Foundation provides programs designed to adequately prepare student-athletes for the rigors of athletics and academics.
