A familiar face has been named chairman of the Department of Geology and Environmental Sciences.
Professor Tim Callahan was tapped to head up the department after more than 15 years at the College of Charleston. Callahan was previously the director of the master’s program in environmental studies at the College.
Callahan earned a Ph.D. in earth and environmental science at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in 2001. He also earned a master’s in geochemistry at New Mexico Tech in 1995. He earned a bachelor’s degree in geology at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1991.
He teaches several courses at the university and has been published several times for his research in hydrology and water resources.
Callahan replaces longtime chair Mitchell Colgan, who is taking a sabbatical during the Spring 2017 and Fall 2017 semesters.
