College of Charleston English professor Emily Rosko won the prestigious 2011 Akron Poetry Prize for her second book of poems, Prop Rockery. World-renowned poet and essayist Natasha Sajé, the 2011 judge, chose Rosko’s work out of more than 400 submissions.
Rosko came to the College in 2010 from Cornell University, where she was a visiting assistant professor of Creative Writing. She has received many distinguished fellowships including the Jacob K. Javits Fellowship, the Stegner Fellowship at Stanford University, and Poetry Foundation’s Ruth Lilly Fellowship. Her first book, Raw Goods Inventory, won the Iowa Poetry Prize in 2005. A collection of seventy essays by contemporary poets on the poetic line, A Broken Thing: Poets on the Line, which Rosko coedited and introduced, will appear this fall from the University of Iowa Press. She is working on a third poetry manuscript, Weather Inventions.
