The College of Charleston continues to monitor Hurricane Irene.  The hurricane is expected to pass well offshore to the east of the South Carolina coast.

The National Hurricane Center has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for most of the South Carolina coast including the city of Charleston. This means that wind gusts between 30-40 mph may occur on the coast as the storm passes on Friday night and Saturday. Strong rip currents also are anticipated throughout the weekend, so persons are strongly advised to stay out of the water

At this time, all College of Charleston events and classes remain on schedule.

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley said the state is not planning any evacuations in advance of Hurricane Irene.

In the event that classes are cancelled, the College will notify students via CougarAlert and also post the information on the College’s web site.
