The College of Charleston’s official news site, The College Today, is looking for talented writing interns to help tell stories about our university’s incredible people and programs.
This internship will provide students interested in both writing and communications careers with access to and mentorship from award-winning writers and editors in the College’s Division of Marketing and Communications. The internship will emphasize news and feature reporting and writing, editing, content marketing and digital content management.
Past writing interns for The College Today have gone on to careers in public relations and content marketing.
Qualifications: Applicants should have strong written and oral communication skills. All applicants must submit 2 to 3 writing samples demonstrating a range of writing abilities. Published writing samples are preferred, but writing assignments completed for coursework will be accepted.
All majors are welcome to apply for non-credit internships with flexible hours. Students interested in for-credit internships must demonstrate that the internship relates to their major and must have approval from the internship coordinator in their respective academic department.
Learning Objectives: Successful interns will come away from this opportunity with a digital portfolio of published, bylined articles as well as stronger writing skills and greater confidence in their ability to write clearly and accurately under deadline. This internship will also expose students to the inner-workings of a full-scale marketing and communications operation.
How to Apply: For Spring 2018 internships, apply by Dec. 18, 2017. Apply by sending a cover letter, resume and 2 to 3 writing samples to Ron Menchaca, senior director of communications, at menchacar@cofc.edu. Students can also apply through Cougar Job Link on the Career Center website.
