Board of Trustees Chair David Hay sent the following message to the campus community on Jan. 30, 2018.
Dear Campus Community,
In my capacity as the chair of the Board of Trustees, I have the responsibility and sole discretion to form committees, including search committees.
I have appointed Trustee Renee Romberger to chair the Presidential Search Committee. Renee is an alumna of the College, is a longtime volunteer leader at the College (serving currently as an officer on the Board of Trustees’ executive committee and having served previously on the College of Charleston Foundation Board and the College of Charleston Alumni Association Board of Directors) and is an accomplished businesswoman with a deep understanding of corporate leadership. She will do an excellent job of ensuring that this process is inclusive and transparent, and I sincerely appreciate her willingness to serve in this important role.
The members of the Presidential Search Committee will be identified and announced in the coming weeks. In the early stages of the search process, the Board of Trustees will hold a series of listening and intake sessions among the campus community in order to gather input regarding the desired characteristics of our next president.
We will also retain the services of a recruitment firm to help conduct a national presidential search. In the coming weeks, the board will create a Request for Proposal (RFP) to identify an appropriate firm with which to partner.
I would like to close by reiterating my message from yesterday – that we are most appreciative for the great work President McConnell has done for his alma mater. His honor and integrity in leading this institution continue to inspire us, and his example provides great energy for all of us on the Board of Trustees as we begin planning the next chapter in this remarkable institution’s story.
Sincerely,
David Hay, Chair, Board of Trustees
College of Charleston
