Boeing South Carolina hosted College of Charleston employees at its state-of-the-art 787 final assembly facility in North Charleston to experience the company’s DreamLearners program.

IMG_1089DreamLearners is an educational outreach program which targets middle school students in South Carolina, introducing them to Boeing and the wonders of flight.

“This was an incredible opportunity for the College of Charleston,” says Gibbon Miler, assistant director for economic development. “The first tour date filled within minutes, so we offered a second date which filled almost as quickly. We were also able to talk with College alumni who now work at Boeing, which everyone enjoyed.”

Boeing and the College of Charleston established a partnership several years ago as a means of exploring and implementing potential synergies. The College offered a session to all new Boeing employees that helped acclimate them to the history and culture of Charleston. Boeing supports a number of College of Charleston initiatives, including academic scholarships and the farm-to-school program that addresses childhood obesity in the Tri-county area. Watch a video.

“Boeing South Carolina and the College of Charleston continue to develop strong ties in our community,” said Richard Guerzon, Boeing South Carolina Tooling & Equipment manager, a College alumnus, and the company’s College of Charleston alumni group focal. “The College of Charleston alumni at Boeing are proud to be a part of this journey.”
