Out of the nine group-fitness classes offered by the College Department of Campus Recreation Services, these five are the most popular. Fitness Coordinator Bucky Buchanan tells you what you need to know about them:
Zumba: This aerobics class centers on fast-paced dancing to upbeat music. Zumba targets the cardiovascular system to raise heart rate and burn fat. It’s ideal for people who need a high-energy class to stay motivated.
Power Yoga: This version of yoga focuses on a flowing progression through yoga poses. The instructors emphasize strength-endurance, flexibility, and balance, and each class ends with a relaxing mediation.
Sanity: The College’s version of the INSANITY workout appeals to the more competitive among us. It combines high-interval exercise with light resistance training to provide a cardio and strength training workout.
HIIT: Like Sanity, High-Intensity Interval Training uses intervals of fast-paced, hardcore exercise as well as resistance training to deliver an intense cardio/strength training workout.
Cougar Training: This functional training class works best for people interested in developing their inner athlete. It focuses on high- and low-impact strength training and conditioning for practical athletic and daily use.
Beyond these, the College offers boot camps, health and wellness seminars and intensive small-group training classes. Find the best class for you on the Campus Recreation Services website.
