Don’t be alarmed if you see business students on their phones now more than ever. Despite the delayed start to in-person classes, the College of Charleston School of Business is still meeting students right where they are — on their cell phones.

On Tuesday, Aug. 25 — the first day of the fall 2020 semester — the School of Business went live with QUEST, the student engagement and professional development mobile application powered by Suitable.

“We’ve been working behind the scenes for two years to implement this new program that will provide the next level of student engagement opportunities for our business students,” says Cory Werkheiser, assistant director of career and professional development for the School of Business Student Success Center.

The mission of QUEST is to promote and track activities and experiences that stimulate a global mindset, inspire creativity and innovation, develop leadership skills and instill ethics and integrity.

With cell phones in tow, business students now have the opportunity to complete tasks, build experiences and attend events to earn eight badges and special medals. Based on skills backed by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and the National Association of Colleges and Employers such as collaboration, critical thinking, and professionalism, students will embark on a journey to gain knowledge, lead and actively participate.

“QUEST will provide students core competency development through experiential learning outside the classroom while celebrating their accomplishments and improving student success,” says Nancy Bright ’99, information technology project manager. “Upon graduation, students will be well prepared when they transition from student to professional.”

QUEST boasts many interactive features, including:

  • A leaderboard to showcase student achievements
  • Opportunities for students to attend events, reflect on the experience and provide feedback
  • Push notifications to enhance communication
  • Streamlined event promotions and easier tracking of attendance

The mobile app will also encourage students to use their phones to engage meaningfully at the School of Business, from virtually anywhere, while competing for points on the QUEST leaderboard. According to the Pew Research Center, 96 percent of U.S. adults ages 18-29 own a smartphone.

And with the College offering classes virtually until Sept. 14, the app is timely. “QUEST will be especially useful to promote online events and activities in the absence of face-to-face programs,” says Werkheiser.

School of Business majors and minors can register for QUEST by downloading the Suitable app in the Apple App Store or on Google Play. Once downloaded, they may register with their @g.cofc.edu email accounts. For questions, contact Cory Werkheiser at werkheiserc@cofc.edu.
