College of Charleston rising junior Will Jamieson, along with Yik Yak colleagues and co-founders Brooks Buffington and Tyler Droll, has raised $10 million in investment money from venture capitalist firms DCM, Azure Capital, Renren and individual investor Tim Draper. The startup announced the investments June 30, 2014.

“It’s a real honor to see how many people have faith in the product we built so recently,” Jamieson said. “The money will be spent on hiring and expanding marketing efforts to reach more college campuses.”

Yik Yak is an anonymous messaging app geared toward college students. It lets students anonymously post information about happenings on campus and read the information feeds of other campuses and invents.
Jamieson developed the android version of the app, which is available for both Android and iOS. He decided to reduce his involvement with Yik Yak so he could focus on earning his bachelor’s degree in computer science, and plans on starting another company after graduation.
“You only have one chance to go to school as a true college student and no immediate amount of money is worth missing that experience” Jamieson explained. “People create their own opportunities and I am confident I will be able to create another one after graduation.”
