The College of Charleston has chosen Hope Jahren’s The Story of More: How We Got to Climate Change and Where to Go from Here for its 2021 The College Reads! book. Hope Jahren is an award-winning scientist, teacher and bestselling author of Lab Girl. In her latest book, The Story of More, she illuminates the link between human habits and resulting negative effects on the planet.
The book grew out of a class Jahren was teaching on climate change, and a desire to translate data about the consequences of our population growth on the planet. In concise, highly readable chapters, she takes us through the science behind key inventions from electric power to large-scale farming to automobiles that release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. She explains the consequences of global warming from superstorms to rising sea levels and the actions that we all can take to fight back. The Story of More is an essential primer on climate change and the mechanisms that drive it.
